PRODUCT & APPLICATION
Q: What are the correct storage conditions?
- Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place. Keep goods on dry pallets and avoid direct contact with the floor. Protect from water, damp conditions, heat and direct sunlight. Once opened, reseal bags or containers tightly and use promptly to prevent contamination or moisture ingress. Always follow the product-specific TDS
Q: What is the typical coverage and thickness for plasters and adhesives?
- Approximate guidance:
- Finish plasters (e.g., NOVA Master Finish): applied at ~2 mm
- Undercoat plasters (e.g., NOVA Tuff Base / NOVA RockWall): ~11 mm
- Adhesives (e.g., NOVA BoardGrip): a 25 kg bag typically fixes two 2400 × 1200 mm boards (on a level background)
- Coverage varies depending on substrate flatness. Refer to the TDS for precise figures
Q: What is the minimum temperature for applying gypsum plasters?
- Apply only when the background and ambient conditions are at a stable, suitable temperature for the full drying period
- Avoid frozen, very cold, or excessively hot surfaces
- Protect fresh plaster from rapid drying, strong drafts, heaters, or direct sunlight
- Do not expose set plaster to temperatures above 49°C
Q: Can I plaster directly onto a painted wall?
- Yes—if the paint and substrate are sound and well-bonded
- Use a suitable bonding agent and test a small area first
Q: Can I plaster in hot weather?
- Yes, but working time will reduce
- Avoid direct sunlight or hot drafts, protect fresh plaster from rapid drying, and apply smaller sections at a time
- Control suction on porous backgrounds where necessary
Q: Can I dot-and-dab plasterboard using your adhesive?
- Yes. Use NOVA BoardGrip on clean, stable masonry or concrete backgrounds
- For smooth or dense concrete, apply a bonding agent in the areas where adhesive will be placed
Q: Can your plasters be used on plasterboard?
Yes.
- Finish plasters (e.g., NOVA Master Finish) can be applied directly
- Jointing compounds (e.g., NOVA JointPro) are suitable for taping, filling, and finishing tapered edges
Q: Is gypsum waste hazardous?
- Uncontaminated gypsum waste is non-hazardous
- Gypsum dust may cause mild irritation—refer to the SDS for PPE and disposal guidance
Q: Are plaster bags recyclable?
- Empty paper bags may be recyclable depending on local council rules
- Dispose of responsibly and follow local regulations
Q: Are wShield products structural waterproofing systems?
- No. wShield products are liquid-applied protective coatings for maintenance and refurbishment, unless expressly stated otherwise
Q: Can wShield products be used where there is standing water?
- No. They are not suitable for permanent ponding water or failed roof falls. Any drainage issue should be corrected before application
Q: Can wShield products be used on all roof types?
- No. Suitability depends on the roof condition, slope, drainage, substrate and product type. Always check the TDS before specifying
Q: Can wShield products be applied in wet or cold weather?
- No. They should not be applied during rain or to damp or frozen substrates, and application should not normally take place below 5°C
Q: Do wShield products need special preparation or primers?
- In many cases, yes. Surface preparation is critical, and some substrates such as metal, porous surfaces or existing coatings may require suitable priming before coating
Q: Can wShield products be used on metal surfaces?
- Yes, where the metal is properly cleaned, de-rusted and primed with a compatible system. Bare or heavily corroded metal is not suitable without correct preparation
Q: Can wShield products be used over existing coatings?
- In many cases, yes, but only where the existing coating is sound, well bonded and compatible. Loose, degraded or incompatible coatings must be removed first
Q: Can wShield products be used on new substrates straight away?
- Only if the substrate is fully cured, sound and properly prepared. Concrete and cementitious surfaces should be fully cured before coating
Q: Can wShield products bridge cracks and movement?
- They can accommodate normal substrate movement and provide crack-bridging performance, but they are not a substitute for structural repair
Q: Are wShield products suitable for details, joints and upstands?
- Yes, where the substrate is properly prepared and the product TDS confirms suitability. These areas may require extra care and build-up
Q: Can wShield products be used as a trafficable finish?
- Not by default. Balconies, walkways, podium areas and similar surfaces are generally non-trafficable unless specifically protected or otherwise confirmed suitable
Q: Do wShield products need more than one coat?
- Yes in most cases. The required film build is achieved through the specified multi-coat application method in the relevant TDS
Q: Can wShield products be used indoors or below ground?
- They are primarily intended for exterior maintenance and refurbishment applications. Below-ground or enclosed use should only be considered where the product is specifically confirmed as suitable
Q: Where can I find the exact limitations for each product?
- In the latest Technical Data Sheet for each product. The TDS should always be checked before use
Q: Is waste from liquid products hazardous?
- Uncontaminated dried residues from liquid coatings are generally non-hazardous. However, wet material and curing residues should be handled with care as they may cause irritation. Refer to the SDS for PPE, handling and disposal guidance
Q: Are liquid product containers (buckets) recyclable?
